Increasingly, retailers - and other shippers -  take actions aimed at reducing the environmental impact of their road transport requirements.  At the same time, road freight carriers also seek to improve the environmental performance of their activities.

Many individual shippers have developed environmental criteria and performance metrics which then guide their purchasing of transport services.  Carriers are faced with multiple, difffering requests for environmental information.

The ERRT WayAhead Programme is a tool that shippers and road freight carriers can use to evaluate the environmental impact of their activities.  There is no obligation to follow the metrics or the outcome - each shipper decides whether to use the tool or not, and what level of outcome is required.
